What is intraoral massage and why is it good for your face?
Intraoral or buccal massage is growing in popularity in the natural beauty industry and rightly so.
This unique technique manipulates the face inside and out to strengthen and tone the facial muscles, giving you a younger looking appearance without the need for invasive treatments.
If you’re uncertain about what exactly it involves and what the benefits are, this page is for you. We explain exactly what intraoral massage is and why it’s so great for your face, and, of course, the best place in London to get a treatment.
What is intraoral massage?
Intraoral massage, sometimes called intraoral buccal massage, is a specialist technique during which a highly-trained therapist wears sterile gloves to work the facial muscles both inside and out. For avoidance of doubt, that means they place their fingers on both the inside and outside of your mouth and skilfully manipulate the face, neck and décolletage.
The technique is both intensely relaxing and highly-effective at improving the appearance of your face. Because of its ability to strengthen, tone and sculpt the face, and to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it can be used as a non-invasive alternative to botox, fillers and facelifts.
What does intraoral massage do?
Intraoral reaches the facial muscles that can’t be reached by a conventional facial massage. It’s like a workout for your face, but all you have to do is lie back and relax. Intraoral is a highly effective technique with a number of complementary benefits, including:
Improves blood circulation
Aids lymphatic drainage
Increases microcirculation in the skin's tissue
Restoration of muscle tone and elasticity
Tightening of muscles
Smoothing of the skin
Released muscle tension
Eliminates spasms and blockages
Enables tissue nourishment
Stimulates skin cell regeneration
Prevention of wrinkles
Deep relaxation
Combined, these effects can make your face look younger, stronger, and healthier.
Can I do self-intraoral massage?
We would always recommend seeing a trained therapist first, but yes, you can perform intraoral massage on yourself, and it can be a great way to see longer lasting results between treatments. Here are some general guidelines for a self-intraoral massage:
Wash your hands thoroughly before starting the massage
Gently insert your index and middle fingers into your mouth, using your tongue to guide them to the buccal muscles (located in the cheeks)
Apply gentle pressure to the buccal muscles using your fingertips, moving in circular or back-and-forth motions. Avoid pressing too hard or causing pain
Move your fingers to different areas of the buccal muscles, continuing to apply gentle pressure
After a few minutes, remove your fingers from your mouth and rinse your mouth with water.
